ABSTRACT:Chemical investigation of the pericarp of the versatile African medicinal plant, Strychnosspinosa, which was aimed at identifying the pharmacologically active component, has lead toisolation of ursolic acid. The work has suggested the possibility of ursolic acid being the activeprinciple against drsentery in this plant. The seed oil was also analysed and was found toconsist of a - amyrin, palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids. All these compounds are beingidentified for the first time in this plant specie.
