Availability and Skills Acquisition of Information and Communication Technology (LCT) By The Librarians of Three University Libraries In Edo State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT:The study surveyed the availability of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in university libraries in Edo State, Nigeria. It also investigated the level of ICT skills amongst librarians, how librarians acquire their ICT skills, the extent of usage of lCTs and the problems of using ICTs in the university libraries. Five (5) research questions were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey clesign was aqopted for the stucly and the qiiestionnaire was used in data collection. The entire population of 90 librarians from three (3) university libraries in Edo State was used for the study. The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts and simple percentages.The findings of the study revealed high availability of lCT facilities, high level of skillfulness in the use of ICTs among librarians. The major problems militating against ICT use include lack of funds, inadequate power sμpply,lack of maintenance etc. Recommendations were made based on the findings of the study.
