Effect of Combustion Temperature and Time On Ash Yields of Rice Husks

ABSTRACT:Rice husk ash (RHA) samples were obtained by combustion of rice husks (RH) in a muffle furnace at varied temperatures of 400 to 10000C and combustion duration of one to six hours. The RHA yields obtained at the specified incineration conditions were found to be in the range of 19 to 24%. Plots of ash yields versus time indicated that lower combustion temperatures (400, 500 and 6000C) gave higher ash yields than higher temperatures (700 to 10000C). The ash yields, however did not vary significantly with prolonged combustion time (5 – 6hrs) at both lower and higher temperatures, showing a greater dependence of higher ash yields on the temperature of incineration than on the duration.
