Nutritional Composition of Vitex Doniana (BLACK PLUM) Fresh Leaves

ABSTRACT:Vitex doniana leaves were analysed for its proximate composition; with mean values as Crude Fibre-109.63gkg-1, Crude Lipid-51.87gkg-1, Crude Protein-182.71 gkg-1, Moisture Content-89.27 gkg-1, Total Ash-352.00 gkg-1and Non Reducing Sugar-13.70 gkg-1. These values suggest the leaves to can be used as nutrient supplements. Similarly, mineral contents were; Phosphorus-180mgkg-1, Iron-135.00 mgkg-1, Potassium-55.2 mgkg-1, Sodium-53.20 mgkg-1, Manganese-0.03 mgkg-1, with all values found within the recommended levels. The rich Iron content of 135.00 mgkg-1 suggests it to be a good source of iron for anaemics.
